Interesting Facts
Direct Quote from K. Patricia Cross in response to my question about her decision to create the K Patricia Cross Future Leaders award:
"Actually, it was sort of a "protest" against what I felt was an over-empasis on research. I felt that research and publication was more than adequately rewarded and recognized whereas teaching had no public recognition. The criteria for the award are "leadership ability or potential for exercising leadership in teaching and learning, with a strong commitment to academic and civic responsibility; and leadership or potential leadership in the development of others as leaders, scholors, and citizens." This is its 15th year--originally established at AAHE--and it grows more popular and prestigious each year--over 200 applications this year with 10 final awards.
A thank you note from AAC&U this week states that "The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award presentations and the various sessions that include the recipients of the awards, continue to be highlights of the annual meeting." Presenting these outstanding future leaders to the profession is downright inspiring!"
