 A national leader in establishing educational programs in gerontology.

 

Focused on what it means to be a professional in aging.  Organized educational and gerontological principles, concepts and teaching practices into a coherent scheme for educators and trainers.  Peterson developed standards and guidelines for gerontology programs, defining and describing the wide range of careers in aging, and focusing on the training needs of the aging network.  His emphasis on careers as well as concepts has been beneficial for students new to the field and also for working adults seeking new or better ways to serve older adults.  Developed 10 dual-degree and certificate programs in gerontology at USC.
