During her sixteen years with Alaska Pacific University, Jane Evanson served as Associate Professor, Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of Students, and Professor and Chairman of Education and Psychology until her retirement as Professor Emerita in 1995. She initiated or expanded programs that especially benefited previously underserved populations including women (Re-Emerging Woman Program and founding the University Women's Association), elderly (Elderhostel), youth (fine arts and physical education summer camps), and the nontraditional learner (prior learning portfolios). An additional legacy was the establishment of a learning resource center to provide diagnostic and instructional services.
Having planned, implemented, managed, and taught undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology and education, she has exerted a major influence on many careers in corporate and higher education and human service.
She is widely published and has provided human resources consulting services to a broad range of private, government, and public service agencies, has served on numerous academic committees and councils, and held several visiting professorships.
She served as President of AAACE for 1989-1990. Her numerous awards and honors include being named to Who's Who in American Women in 1983 and Outstanding Leader and Educator in 1992 by the Alaska Legislature.
